Allen Dennard is a trumpeter, composer, and bandleader who was born and raised in the city of Detroit, Michigan. He took to jazz at an early age and while in high school was mentored by Marcus Belgrave and eventually moved on to study music at the University of Michigan. While still a student and right after graduation Dennard was already appearing at major local festivals with major artists such as the veterans Wendell Harrison and David McMurray. He continued to work with prominent younger artists such as Gayelynn Mckinney, De’Sean Jones, and Sean Dobbins. He expanded his range of experiences, playing with the R&B artist Ray J and the horn section for the MC5 reunion in Detroit, and playing on an album by Alice Cooper. While continuing to participate in a variety of groups, he also leads his own combos, ranging from a trio to quintet in clubs and festivals around Detroit and throughout the entire state of Michigan, developing his own unique mixture of jazz, contemporary, hip hop, and funk.
