Artist Statement:

My work as an artist is linked to my way of my being in the world. Making work is a way of externalizing what is internal in order to get a good look at both. My job as an artist is to use my vision and skill to show something to the world about what it’s like to be a person observing, at a particular time in a particular place. I hope to present through my work, a version of events that can resonate, and shine a light to others, it should feel true, affirming, and good, and new.
Working in an Urban Landscape, provides a guide for understanding city lives, and my own life. Conventional Urban studies. privileges the Social Sciences and quantifiable data. Art can represent the experience of city living. It records responses: what we feel, wish for, fear, desire, and dream. I am interested in what I call charged sites, places that have endured drama and tensions. My images do not always contain evidence of these histories, the significance can be materialized by human experience, that stir recollections. They inspire stories and retelling of these stories constitutes memory. For individuals and for communities, it may be said that memory is identity; at least an essential part of it. To lose your memory is to literally no longer know who you are. I believe we have all witnessed the consequences of such loss. Since memory is constantly of the move, so to are the narratives in which the meaning of objects is embedded. Forever evolving and reshaping in order to make sense of our present. This history coheres in a desired future.
