Marty Walker: A Second Look – Art Reception

Value. Color. Design. These have been important elements in Marty Walker’s work from her early days in graphic design and quilt-making to her current work in oil paint, acrylic paint and pastel. Her recent work in acrylic has centered on the multi-focused world of windows, with intersecting images of inside and out. The combination of physical space and reflection conveys a compelling puzzle of light and form. Her works have been studies of atmosphere and light from dazzling sunshine to the vagaries of fog.

Marty has won several awards for her paintings in local, regional and national shows and has been juried into international competitions. Her work has appeared on the cover of the Ann Arbor Observer over a dozen times and was used in the Safe House Center Calendar for five consecutive years. Glacier Hills Retirement Center, Mott Children’s Hospital, Chelsea Community Hospital, St. Joe’s Hospital, Washtenaw Community College and First Martin Corporation have her work in their collections. She is a member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, the International Society of Acrylic Painters, the Whitmore Lake Portrait Group, Chelsea Painters and the Ann Arbor Women Artists, serving on its board from 2004 to 2016.

Due to her father’s service in the Air Force, Marty has lived in many places, from Houston to Japan to Syracuse, NY. She landed in Philadelphia where she went to Tyler School of Art and eventually settled in the Midwest; first Chicago, IL then Ann Arbor, MI. To see more of her work go to martywalkerart.com.
