Inspired by audience members dancing outside during our Lot Lounge concert days, Kerrytown Concert House is excited to continue its new Dance Hall Nights series where music lovers will get the option to listen in their seats in the main hall or go and dance in the cleared side hall if the spirit moves them! Coming back to the House to keep the dance hall going is Pete Siers – this time for Latin Night with Los Gatos!
The brainchild of drummer and multi-percussionist Pete Siers and assembled in 1997, the concept of a small group focused on traditional Afro-Cuban rhythms has positioned Los Gatos as a consistent crowd pleaser. Built from the “old-school” Latin jazz values set forth by Cal Tjader, Mongo Santamaria, Tito Puente and Joe Cuba, the use of call-and-response vocal coro sections throughout their repertoire lifts the music to new heights of soulfulness and drama. The band introduced a dance-friendly evening back in the Ann Arbor Firefly Club days and look forward to doing the same for audience members at Kerrytown Concert House!
Siers is an authentic risk-taker who serves the music and surrenders to what it calls for.
Siers’ aspirations are as numerous as his accomplishments. The ultimate goal for his Latin quintet, Los Gatos, is to experience first-hand the roots of Afro-Cuban rhythm in its place of origin, Cuba, and to study with the masters.
Los Gatos Band Members:
- Paul Vornhagen – Saxophone, Flute
- Owl DiBlassio – Congas, Vocals
- Brian DiBlassio – Piano, Vocals
- Eddie Caraballo – Bass, Vocals
- Pete Siers – Timbales, Percussion, Vocals
Don’t miss what is sure to be a great night of “old-school” Latin jazz where we’ve cleared a room so you can have some room to move!

PETE SIERS, DRUMS
PETE SIERS, DRUMS
Like Clark Kent, jazz percussionist Pete Siers is soft-spoken and unassuming – but put him behind a drum set, and a hard-swinging, intensely physical, dynamically sensitive drummer emerges. According to the Southeastern Michigan Jazz Association, when Pete plays, “readily apparent musical joy” can be expected. Paul Pearce of Bass World magazine writes that “Pete absolutely ‘sings’ with his drum kit.”
Siers has played with jazz luminaries such as Russell Malone, Mulgrew Miller, Marian McPartland, Lee Konitz, Benny Golson, James Moody, Kenny Werner, David “Fathead” Newman, Eddie Daniels, Frank Morgan, Scott Hamilton, Bob Wilber, and Barry Harris. In addition to his expansive performance career, Siers has played on over 50 recordings.
Pete has taught percussion and jazz drumming for over 25 years, teaching privately, as well as at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor School for Performing Arts, Emory University, Purdue University and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.
