Schubert's "Trout Quintet" is from 1819 and includes the famous variations on his own wildly successful song, "Die Forelle." In 1903, Ralph Vaughan Williams took up the same instrumentation to compose a lavish, Brahmsian work, which he then hid away. In the 1990s, his widow lifted the embargo, and it was released for publication.
