1 event, Featured - Featured Across nearly a century, two quintets emerge from the same rare design — piano and four strings, but with the low murmur of the double bass replacing the 2nd violin. Schubert's "Trout Quintet" is from 1819 and includes the famous variations on his own wildly successful song, "Die Forelle." In 1903, Ralph Vaughan Williams took up the same instrumentation to compose a lavish, Brahmsian work, which he then hid away. In the 1990s, his widow lifted the embargo, and it was released for publication.
