Paul Leland Hill is a young bass from Clinton, Utah. He apprenticed at Sarasota Opera in 2020 and recently returned as a studio artist in January of 2023 to sing the Imperial commissioner in Madama Butterfly and to cover the role of Silva in Verdi’s Ernani. Paul was a company member at Utah Festival Opera for their 2022 and 23 season stepping in for the role of Mr. Maraczek in She Loves Me and as the Herald in Wagner’s Lohengrin. Recent roles include Pistola in Salt Marsh Opera’s producction of Verdi’s Falstaff, Big Bob in Sarasota’s production of Britten’s Little Sweep, and covering Wurm in Verdi’s Luisa Miller and Raimondo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor at Sarasota Opera.  Paul graduated with a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance at the University of Michigan in May 2022. While at UM, he appeared as the Sodbuster in Missy Mazzoli’s Proving Up, Don Pasquale in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, and Pandolphe in Massenet’s Cendrillon. Paul received an undergraduate degree in Piano Performance from the University of Utah. Paul continues to play the piano, coach, and teach young singers in addition to pursuing his operatic singing career.
