Saxophonist, clarinetist, flutist, and composer Peter Formanek has been performing since the age of eleven, first in rock bands and then in jazz groups around his native Baltimore, in Ann Arbor while attending the University of Michigan and now, after graduation, he has become a prime mover on the southeast Michigan music scene, performing in many different contexts and frequently working on the East Coast. He has appeared with his father Michael Formanek’s Cheating Heart, with Tim Berne, Jim Black, and Jacob Sacks; the cooperative quartet, Four Cool Blue; and is a member of the Baltimore-based Out of Your Head Collective. A dedicated pedagogue, he currently provides instruction at the Crescendo Academy of Music in Kalamazoo, MI.
