Creole Piano: An Evening with New Orleans pianist, Tom McDermott

Enjoy a lively, heartfelt concert of piano music with Tom McDermott, one of New Orleans’ most distinctive pianists! This program highlights a wide range of “New World” styles, from the music of Louis Moreau Gottschalk to classic ragtime, boogie-woogie, and the rich piano traditions of New Orleans, both old and new. Along the way, you’ll also hear touches of Cuban tango and Brazilian choro, adding extra color and rhythm to the mix.

With more than 40 years at the piano, McDermott brings a deep understanding of these styles, along with a relaxed, engaging presence. His playing blends tradition with his own personal touch, creating a sound that’s warm, rhythmic, and full of character.

When you hear Tom McDermott at the keyboard, you’re not just getting a concert, you’re stepping into a living archive of New Orleans piano history, seasoned with warmth, and a touch of Brazilian flair.
